We’ve been having Zoopy, don’t mess it up!

“Launched in March 2007, Zoopy.com allows its users to upload and share videos, photos, podcasts and blogs. In just over a year, Zoopy.com have established themselves as a significant player in the user-generated content space in Africa, with Nokia selecting them as their regional imaging partner for South and West Africa. More recently, Zoopy.com was also chosen as Mail & Guardian’s Online video delivery partner.”  At this point we can all say: Zoopy we have really been having it! Thanx

Then on the 26th of June Zoopy makes a huge announced, they’ve also been having it and have just signed a contract which gives Vodacom 40% share in Zoopy. This is a great achievement for Jason and the gang, and it’s great to see Vodacom delving deeper and deeper into social media and web2.0. This could be the start of some very good things to come or could it?

Just 1 day prior to this partnership with Zoopy, Vodacom also launched another new service claiming that they were “simplifying mobile Internet” This however was not the case and happened to be a huge blunder on their part. Without providing an opt in service Vodacom basically forced millions of happy internet users onto their new service, the new service sucked and over the next few days they got alot of unhappy customers.

It’s going to be very interesting to see if Jason and the team can retain control of Zoopy and take this great local product to the next level. With a huge beast of a partner sure to be breathing down their necks to turn a profit as soon as possible, the question is, will we still be having it in a year from now? I sure hope so.

Vodacom please don’t mess this up. Jason and the team know what they are doing, so be sure to listen to them every step of the way and then things will turn out fine. Let’s not have a repeat of the whole proxy bugger up.

I agree, Vodacom is bringing huge strengths to Zoopy, just blogging to make sure you on your toes, we don’t want zoopy slipping because of so week decisions from partners. Will definitively email if I think there are problems ;-)

Don’t mean to be overly critical of Vodacom they are doing a fine job in some fields, I have just seen my share of buggerups and wanna make sure I share my thoughts so Zoopy can get bigger and better.

Anyway keep up the good work guys! It’s great to see a local startup doing so well.
